Locked Out in The Heat
On a day to day basis everyone is on a tight schedule that usually requires more time in the day than is possible. This constant activity causes people to rush from one thing to the next. I have found that at Chandler Fashion Center, many people are trying to get in to make the important purchase and then out as soon as possible. Rushing leaves the opportunity for the unfortunate events to happen to unsuspecting mall patrons.
I get at least four to five calls every week from people who were unlucky enough to find themselves locked out of their car after a long shopping trip at the mall. For some strange reason it tends to happen more at Chandler mall than anywhere else in the area but shoppers have a lot on their mind and car keys isn’t one of them. In many cases the lockout will occur in the late afternoon, when the heat is at its peak. This time of day requires immediate response as long exposure to high temperatures can be hazardous to your health.
Last week a call came in from the manager at Nordstrom’s rack, she was looking for a local locksmith on behalf of an elderly woman that was apparently locked out of her 1998 Cadillac Deville. Since the outside temperature was over 110 degrees I rushed over. I arrived on the scene to meet a woman that was nearly 90 years old and in a panic. I opened the car to help the customer look for the key in the vehicle. After 20 minutes of looking high and low, there was still no sign of the keys. I asked the customer is she wanted to have a car key made to get her back on the road. The elderly woman explained that she had an extra set at home and she would have her daughter bring them to her. She then went to her purse to get a credit card for payment and pulled out her keys too. Everyone present couldn’t believe that she had the key the whole time. I understand that things like these do happen, so I discounted the rate to make the customer fell more at ease.
Everyday many people find themselves locked out of a car, house, or business. Locksmith Terms Explained
There are times when people ask me, after they’ve read a locksmith article, what some of the words mean and I felt it would be helpful to dedicate one of these articles to explain what some popularly used terms mean. There are, to be sure, many different words and job descriptions in the locksmith industry and there will be many who want to have a finer understanding about them. While this list will be a great resource for you to learn it’s also a great tool for you if and when you need the help of a locksmith in Tempe. One of the more curious terms is master key.
With a little research you can find that a master key is one that works on multiple locks and even though there is one set key for the single lock, a master key will be fitted for many in a place. There are a lot of people who feel that a master key is a skeleton key and that is why I am including that definition in this article, so as to clear up such a mythical item. A skeleton key is a thinly cut warded lock key, and it is cut thin to bypass the wards in a lock, and this type of key is also known as a bit key since it merely has anywhere from one or more bits cut in to it to work on certain locks, or bypass them. Due to the sound of it access control system is a very misunderstood term. The easiest way to know about this is to think about it as if you have a business here in Tempe and the best way to control security is to be able to have a system in place that lets only those that can be in a place, be able to enter. This is something that can be done with said access control system which allows those who have the appropriate clearance, or permission, to enter and sometimes, even exit. An access control system can range in security level from low to high with locks, biometrics such as finger prints and eye scans, keyless entry and CCTV. A very popular piece that is used, and also very cost effective, is the strike plate, which is widely supported by Tempe locksmiths.
The strike will strengthen a doors defends and the bolt that is part of it is put in to the door jamb or the floor and the strike is known to increase against forced entry very well. Strike plates are going to be a benefit for anyone needing commercial or residential, cost friendly and effective increased security.
VATS and Pats are words, actually anagrams, which will not sounds familiar to most, unless they have one. VATS means vehicle anti theft system and they are on many of the more current trucks and cars of today in Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Phoenix or Paradise Valley and it’s also known as a PASS, meaning a personalized automotive security system, and the other security system is a PATS, which means passive anti theft system. With research or flipping through your applicable cars owner’s manual you can find out more about these.
